STRATEGIC VICTORY FOR GUILLEM MUÑOZ
- TBellés Canondale Gaes Team manages to win the stage thanks to a fantastic strategy.
- Josep Betalú maintains the leadership of the overall leaderboard.
- Second victory for Ramona Gabriel in female category.
First part of the marathon stage of the Gaes Titan Desert by Garmin, in which the cyclists must take the start with all the necessary equipment to spend the night without mechanical and physiotherapeutic service. The 114 kilometers and 1.600 meters of elevation gain of the stage has been a hard test after yesterday’s effort.
The leading group started really fast and the first attacks have taken place in the 14 kilometer, although they have been neutralized by the peloton very soon. The hostilities were not finished as Guillem Muñoz, Crístofer Bosque -both from the TBellés Canondale Gaes Team- and Francesc Freixer -Esteve-KH7- have opened a gap from the group and have begun to take an advantage, of four minutes. After the CP4, Freixer lost the pace and his teammate Oriol Colomé reached him.
In the last part of the stage Guillem Muñoz showed an amazing pace and was able to get the victory while two members of the Esteve-KH7 team reached Crístofer Bosque to complete the podium.
The persecutor group, with some of the main aspirants for the general victory like Josep Betalú, Robert Bou, Sebastián and Diego Tamayo, Moisés Dueñas, Ignacio Gili, Triki Beltrán, José Luis Miranda and Bruno Rosa, arrived more than 7 minutes after the winner of the stage. Betalú is still the leader of the Gaes Titan Desert by Garmin, followed by Guillem Muñoz (4’15’’) and Moisés Dueñas (7’40’’)
In female category, Ramona Gabriel (Garmin Team) managed to win the stage but this time with no advantage over Anna Ramírez. Ramírez started the stage ahead, but before the summit of the first ascension Ramírez. From this moment both ride together until the final sprint in which Ramona was the winner of the duel for the stage victory. She maintains the lead with the same 5’28’’ distance.
Ramona Gabriel: "I felt good from the start although I was afraid about yesterday effort. I started alone, but soon Anna Ramírez has joined me. I managed to set a strong pace to left Anna behind during the first ascension but she came up with me and we have gone together until the end. Today is a different day, because is the first part of the marathon stage without any type of assistance and we have to be a little clever.”
