Here we provide answers to some of the most common questions regarding the NISSAN TITAN DESERT MTB MARATHON, the race and the classifications.


THE RACE
1.1 What day does the race start?
The starting date is May 3th, 2010.
1.2 What are the start times of the stages?
The start for each stage will be 7.00 am.
1.3 Will the route be signposted?
For this year’s event the organisers want it to be the participants who are capable of finding the correct routes themselves. This is why signposting will be reduced to a minimum. Furthermore, in the same way as 2009, one of the days will have a long way of navigation and the riders will use GPS and Roadbook to follow the waypoints.
   
1.4 When will I be told about the route?
The exact route will be revealed the night before each stage. In March, the description of the stages and the altitudes will be confirmed.
   
1.5 What does the “marathon” stage consist of?

It's a stage separated in two days without external help in the camp. The concurrents don't have any kind of external help in the camp and the mechanical and physiotherapeutic assistance will be waiting at the end of the second day stage.

1.6 How will the pass controls be positioned and how many will there be?
The pass controls will be positioned in accordance with the route of each stage. Although there will be variations depending on the route there will be no more than 4 per stage.
   
1.7 And if I don’t make it to the pass control?
In this case the organisers will pick up the participants who have had to drop out and the pick-up car and take them to the camp. These participants will be able to start the next day although their results will no longer count for the general classification.
   
1.8 How often will there be provisions?
It depends fundamentally on the route and the characteristics of the stage. However the organisers have planned provisions every 40 km at least.
   
1.9 What will be at the provision points?
2 or more people from the organisation, bottled water, energy drinks and a shady rest area.
   
1.10 What happens if I withdraw from a particular stage?
Participants who withdraw from any of the stages will not be included in the general classification. You and your bike will be picked up by the chase car and transferred to the end of the stage. You will be able to start in subsequent stages however their times will not be counted.

PERSONAL LOGISTICS
2.1 How can I take my bicycle to Morocco?

If you are registred in the with plane forfait or without it and you're planning travel to Morocco by your own, the Titan Desert offers you the possibility of sending the bicycle in the truck of the organization.

The price of the sending of the bicycle up to Morocco is included in the inscription. All the participants will have to send the bicycle to RPM's store in the weeks before the Titan Desert, so much if they lower Morocco with flight of the organization as if they do it for his own.

Shortly we will give you more details of this service but we can advance some details:

- STEP 2: The organization will send a box  that there will have to forward the participant (assuming the cost of this sending) to RPM's store in the dates that will be communicated shortly.

2.2 How much clothing should I wear?
It is highly recommendable to wear a cycling jersey and shorts for each stage. We also advise wearing a lightweight windbreaker.

During the rest of the day you will use Bermuda shorts and lightweight T-shirts. Based on experience from last year’s event (there was torrential rain in 2007), it would be advisable to carry warm clothing however without going over the top. Do not forget to pack a bathing suit for some of the hotels and camping.
   
2.3 How will I transfer my luggage each day?
The organisers will do this everyday using the transport lorry. During the marathon stage you must be aware that the participants will not have access to their belongings and must make do with what they can carry on their person only.
   
2.4 Will we be able to communicate with my country?

The areas were camps are located are a little bit closer to little towns and they usually have GSM connection for mobile phones. Nevertheless, we cannot garantee this coverage and could be some camps without GSM connection. 


2.5 And if I want to bring along companions?
A programme has been created for companions for the last two days of the race. The companions will be able to enjoy the finishing stage and the prize giving.
   
2.6 When can I collect my bike?
The bikes will be collected a week after the TITAN DESERT 2010 has finished.
    
   
2.7 Can the mechanic’s costs be shared with another participant?
The organisers have nothing against participants doing so. Nevertheless, you must be aware that there is a maximum of four mechanics in each support car.
   
2.8 Can I look for sponsors?
It is completely permitted to search for sponsors and there is no condition in this regard.
   
2.9 Can I take large spare parts such as a frame or rims?
This will depend on the assistance package hired by each participant.
2.10 What material is the most essential?
The use of GPS, the support for the roadbook and spare inner tubes are essential. The rest will depend on each individual’s requirements during the race.
   
2.11 How will I transport the RoadBook?
Each participant must have their own support although the organisers warn that the size must be DIN A-5.
   
2.12 Will the campgrounds provide electrical power?
No.
HEALTH / LEGAL
3.1 What temperatures will have to be withstood during the stages?
During the dates when the race is programmed the participants will have to withstand temperatures which will fluctuate between 15ºC minimum and 40ºC maximum.
   
3.2 Do I need any type of vaccine?
No type of vaccine is compulsory although we recommend ensuring that you are up-to-date with your tetanus injections.
   
3.3 What level should I have for participating in the TITAN DESERT MTB MARATHON?
Although the competition is open to all kinds of bike enthusiasts, it is recommendable to be in good physical condition. Moreover, you have to have a good rhythm to cycle for many kilometres and it is advisable to have minimum navigation skills.
   
3.4 Will there be a physiotherapist?

The organisers have not planned a specific physiotherapy service although there is a doctor. Each participant can bring their own physiotherapist if necessary.

The previous months before the start of the Nissan Titan Desert, some physioterapy assistance will be revealed. You will be able to look for an assistance in the web

3.5 What kind of insurance policy does the race cover me with?
The event organisers give the participants access to a medical assistance insurance policy in Morocco and in the event of an emergency repatriation to Spain.
   
3.6 What should I put in my med kit for the race?
Anti-inflammatory drug: e.g. ibuprofen, aspirin or paracetamol (acetaminophen).
Antidiuretic: Fortasec (Loperamide)
Potassium for the ramps: Boy-K
Disinfectant: iodine– Topionic: for injuries or to treat blisters on the hands, feet or bottom.
Bandages (band-aids)  for blisters, cuts and scrapes.
Creams for rashes and blisters: a moisturizer such as those used for diaper rash.
Oral rehydration salts were used during the race or upon reaching the camp.

Do not forget the sunscreen!
   
3.7 What should I do to hydrate myself during the race?
Ideally you should use Oral rehydration salts and water in equal proportion. If you drink 4 litres, it should be to leaders of water and 2 L of water with oral rehydration salts.
   

3.8 Some advice:
Given that during this race in addition to handling it is likely that you may also have to walk you should wear footwear that is appropriate and never knew or not broken in.

It is very important that you change your race uniform every day if possible. Otherwise make sure that it is free of any sand that could cause blisters.


ACCOMMODATIONS / MEALS
4.1
4.2 What kind of food will there be during the event?
The diet throughout the TITAN has been drawn up by nutritional experts in SoloBici. It consists of varied and nutritious food, rich in carbohydrates. Salads, vegetables, cereals, pasta etc. everything riders need to cope with the tough days of the race.
   

4.3 What will the conditions be like in the camps?
The camps will have everything required for living. Bathrooms, showers, restaurants, beds. During the marathon stage the participants will share a large tent.
   

4.4 How will we sleep in the haimas?
The haimas are fully equipped. You will be provided with a mattress with clean sheets and the event organisers will distribute the riders at their discretion.
