La primera especial, acortada a 71km (inicialmente 111) tras la tormenta de arena de la tarde anterior, ha avivado la lucha entre Milton Ramos, Roberto Heras y Luís Leao Pinto. En la línea de meta, el portugués a aventajado al bejarano en una llegada muy ajustada al sprint mientras que Milton, con una apuesta totalmente diferente y más centrada en la parte de arena, se ha visto penalizado en la zona más rápida y ha perdido más de 13 minutos en la línea de meta.
