The Garmin Titan Desert 2020 is already warming up. To release the first details of the 15th edition of the event, which will take place in Morocco from 19 to 24 April 2020, the organization will make the official presentation on 1 October in Cinesa Príncipe Pío in Madrid and on 3 October in Cinesa Diagonal in Barcelona.
Its first edition was in 2006, and fifteen years later the Garmin Titan Desert is a reference event worldwide for mountain bike stage races. It has grown steadily in terms of quantity and quality, and for 2020 a series of great novelties are being prepared. They will be revealed over the coming weeks.
Technical Director of the event Manuel Tajada gives us an advance: “for this 15th edition we have decided to return to the Boumalne Dades area, where we have always found landscapes and routes that the participants like. This year we are preparing a loop stage in the area and the start of the second stage too, with new routes in comparison to previous editions. Once in the desert, the route will be the classic Titan Desert one, without forgetting navigation and the dunes. I’m sure we will enjoy some great mountain bike days”.
Another thing to note are the different dates for the event: “For 2020 we have decided to bring the dates forward. The reason is that the long weekend of 1 May coincides with the celebration of Ramadan, and we think that it was necessary to make this change out of respect and for the smooth operation of the race. We have tried to offset the effect as much as possible so as not to jeopardise the Titans”, says Félix Dot, the Director of the Garmin Titan Desert.
After 2 successive years achieving ‘sold out’, the Garmin Titan Desert 2020 has also started well in terms of participation. In May we sold the first 150 race numbers (bibs) in less than a week, and on 2 October we will re-open registration on the official website titandesert.com
After ending the 2019 edition with an average mark of 9/10 and a level of satisfaction of 5/5, the challenge for the Garmin Titan Desert now is to maintain the same level of excellence and keep its status as one of the hardest mountain bike stage races in the world.

A 15-year legend:
The next edition will mark 15 years since the great mountain bike adventure in North Africa took place for the first time. In 2006, Juan Porcar gave the signal to start the race to 143 participants in Madrid for the first of the four stages that made up the event at the time. 139 Titans finished.
In the 14 editions held since then, 77 stages have been completed over a distance of 7,600 kilometres. Roberto Heras and Josep Betalú hold the record for outright wins, with four each.
