TRAILRUNNER NÚRIA PICAS, BACK IN TITAN DESERT
March 16 th 2021 - 14:07
• Spanish renowned trailrunner will race the Titan Desert for the second time. She will be part of the KH-7 team, managed by former professional cyclist Melchor Mauri.
• Picas to compete in the Mixed Duo class, together with fellow trailrunner and own coach, Pau Bartoló.
Long-distance runner Núria Picas will share the KH-7 Team with big names of road cycling and Titan Desert, such as Abraham Olano, former time-trial world champion and Josep Betalú, 4-time Titan Desert race winner. Her teammate in the Mixed Duo class will be her own coach Pau Bartoló.
As a trailrunner, Picas holds a successful career: double Ultra Trail World Tour champion (2014 and 2015), Ultra Trail world champion in 2012 and winner of the Montblanc Ultra Trail race in 2017.
Núria Picas made her debut in Titan Desert in 2019, showing quite a remarkable performance. She finished third in the Elite women class, behind top racers and Titan Desert winners Anna Ramirez and Ramona Gabriel. In 2016 Núria Picas raced her first Titan event ever in Cuba (Titan Tropic), finishing even better placed: runner-up in her class.
Picas has competition in her blood and she’s eager to race again after so much time sidelined due to the pandemic. ”I cannot remember the last time I put a bib on, maybe more than a year ago. Confinement has been really tough, but we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. It is very exciting to be back in Morocco and Titan Desert. This is a long race with high temperatures that make things harder, but I am looking forward to enjoying this big adventure once again”, she says.
Núria Picas will benefit from the support and the experience of a cycling legend and one of the best-recognized faces in the Titan Desert universe, former Vuelta a España race winner Melchor Mauri. “I am happy to lead another KH-7-backed team in this amazing stage race”, says Mauri, who is ready for his 12th Titan Desert appearance.
The KH-7 team is one of the largest teams in the race and stands out both for the large amount of riders –mostly amateurs- engaged, and its top-class elite riders, a bunch of riders ready to fight for the race overall lead, such as 4-time Titan Desert winner Josep Betalú, assisted by teammates Iván Díaz and Miguel Muñoz.
